Участвовал в организации выставок самиздатовских документов на Биеннале в Венеции (1977), в Турине (1978), в Вашингтоне (1979) и в Риме. С 1979 на Радио Свобода в Мюнхене. Аналитик, начальник отдела Самиздата, редактор и издатель еженедельника "Материалы Самиздата". В 1990-1994 заместитель директора, затем директор Отдела информационных ресурсов НИИ РС-РСЕ. С 1995 на Радио Свобода в Праге. В 1998-2003 директор Русской службы.

Составитель сборников о советском диссидентском движении. Его статьи и интервью на правозащитные темы публиковались в европейских и американских изданиях. Автор радиопередач на исторические, историко-музыкальные и общекультурные темы. Среди них радиоциклы "Неаполь в Петербурге", "Моцарт и Сальери", "Казанова - европейская судьба". В России печатался в "Литературной газете", "Независимой газете", журналах "Знание-сила", "Персона", "Футбольная правда" и др. В 2002 в издательстве "Вагриус" вышла его художественная книга "Дрейф", написанная на русском языке. A member of the FreeMediaOnline.org Board of Directors and the International Advisory Board, Mario Corti is a distinguished journalist, writer, and analyst of Russian politics, society, and culture. He has been an active supporter of independent journalism and publishing in Russia and in other countries of the former Soviet Union and throughout Eastern Europe.

In 1979, Mario Corti joined Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) in Munich as a research-analyst/editor of the Samizdat unit of Radio Liberty. He later became deputy chief and chief of the Samizdat unit and served as Deputy Director and Director of the Information Resources Department of the RFE-RL Research Institute. After RFE/RL's move from Munich to Prague, Mario Corti worked as a broadcaster in the Russian Broadcasting Department, serving as Deputy Director (1996 - 1998) and as Director (1998-2003). While in charge of RFE/RL Russian broadcasts, he expanded Moscow and Saint Petersburg news bureaus and opened a news bureau in Ekaterinburg. He also organized training seminars for journalists who contributed news reports to RFE/RL and instituted the "Radio Svoboda" Journalistic Award. While at RFE/RL, he also launched a number of cooperative projects with independent media outlets and independent journalists in Russia. He also started a multimedia educational project with the Moscow University for the Humanities (RGGU) based on the Radio Liberty series dealing with the XXth Communist Party Congress. He retired from RFE/RL in 2005.

Before joining RFE/RL, Mario Corti worked as a translator and interpreter in the Italian Embassy in Moscow, cofounded a publishing house (La Casa Matriona) in Milan, and was actively publicizing the work of Soviet human rights activists and Samizdat writers. Between 1969 and 1978, he edited several books on dissent in the USSR. In 1977 he served as chairman of the Italian Organizing Committee of the Second International Sakharov Hearings in Rome and contributed to an exhibit on Soviet dissent for the Venice Biennale. He organized exhibits of Samizdat documents in Turin, Italy (sponsored by La Gazzetta del Popolo in 1978), and in Washington, D.C. (sponsored by AFL-CIO in 1979). In 1979, he helped to organize the Third (American) Sakharov Hearings in Washington, D.C. on violations of human rights in the USSR and Eastern Europe.

Mario Corti is the author and editor of several books. Dreif, a book written in Russian about philosophy and culture, was published in Russia and Ukraine in 2002. His book, Salieri i Mozart, on the relationship between the two composers, was published in Russian in 2005. His book about Italian physicians in Russia appeared both in Russian (Drugie ital'iantsy. Vrachi na sluzhbe Rosssii, St. Petersburg, 2010), and in Italian (Gli "altri" italiani. Medici al servizio della Russia, Rome, 2011). His articles on human rights and Soviet dissent have appeared in several languages in many countries. He speaks Italian, Rusian, English, German, Spanish, and French and has a working knowledge of several other European languages. He currently lives in Italy and writes for the Russian media.

Dopo un esperienza come traduttore dal russo in Italia e presso l'Ambasciata italiana di Mosca, Mario Corti ha lavorato a Monaco di Baviera per Radio Free Europe-Radio Liberty occupandosi dapprima di samizdat e diritti dell'uomo in Unione Sovietica.

Dopo il trasferimento a Praga della stessa radio nel 1995 è passato al Servizio russo di cui è stato direttore dal 1998 al 2003. Oltre alla sua attività come commentatore, ha prodotto diversi programmi storico-culturali, dedicati in particolare ai rapporti tra la Russia e l'Italia. Nel 1996 ha prodotto un ciclo sui compositori italiani a Pietroburgo nel Settecento. Il suo ciclo su Mozart e Salieri con la partecipazione di musicologi occidentali e storici della letteratura russi è stato prodotto nel 1997 e ripetuto varie volte negli anni successivi. Le sue interviste e i suoi articoli su argomenti vari sono stati pubblicati su diversi giornali e riviste russi. Nel 2002 è uscito il suo romanzo autobiografico scritto in lingua russa dal titolo "Drejf" (Deriva) presso la casa editrice Vagrius di Mosca. Nel 2005 il suo libro "Salieri e Mozart" è apparso a San Pietroburgo presso la casa editrice Kompozitor. Ultimamente ha pubblicato in russo e in italiano un saggio sui medici italiani in Russia tra il 1400 e il 1900 (Drugie ital'iantsy. Vrachi na sluzhbe Rossii, Izd. zhurnala "Zvezda", Sankt Peterburg 2010; Glli "altri" italiani. Medici al servizio della Russia, Carocci, Roma 2011".
